“Back pain is among the most common disorders in the United States”
Disorder Prevalance
Back pain is among the most common disorders in the United States, causing more financial losses to companies and insurance systems than any other single disorder except common cold. Up to 70 % of the people have experienced back pain sometime during their lives; around 40 % had an episode lasting more than a day in the last 12 months and around 25 % during the past three months
Challenges in Home Based Spine Care
Home based physical therapy services are rarely optimally delivered. Treatments are often designed randomly using methods that are either no longer recommended by medical guidelines or are carried out with sub-optimal devices. Producing services is expensive and difficult to scale economically. Treatment success is difficult to reproduce because it is highly dependent upon the individual therapist’s skills.
Active Therapy Solution
The NH Spine + Ortho Solution is a comprehensive platform which offers an answer for these challenges. The treatment can be easily ‘mass-customized’ with high quality results due to automated protocol planning, feedback based adaptive loading progression and pain monitoring throughout the program. Automation, bio-feedback controlled self-training and cloud-based quality control system increase client compliance and significantly lower treatment costs.
The First Connected Device for Low Back Strengthening at Home
NH Spine + Ortho Home Care
The NH Spine + Ortho Lumbar Solution utilizes a physiologic variable resistance technology that enables maximal strengthening throughout the range of motion of the muscle groups, compensating for the change of strength.
The Solution is available for lumbar spine mobilization and strengthening through proprietary exercise and IT tools. The system is able to measure strength, endurance and mobility improvement with real-time monitoring of home care patient compliance and improvemen
Comprehensive Treatment Program
Use of the home care device is referred by the patient’s physician and a patient specific treatment program is developed. The device is delivered to the patient’s home and the patient is trained to use the system. A clinician monitors and provides guidance and support for the patient as needed. Upon expiration of the scripted period, which can be up to 90 days or more, the equipment is picked up from the patient’s home.
Evaluations
Individualized programs require thorough understanding of the patient background, present condition and physical capacity. A standard evaluation protocol includes a validated questionnaire including patient background, pain profiles and self-assessment. Physical therapy evaluation assesses posture, functional deficiencies and limitations. Device based tests include mobility testing. Results are recorded in a database and a very illustrative spine profile can be printed out comparing each test to normative data. Evaluations done pre, mid and post, provide objective outcome reports for treating doctors and third‑party payers as well as added motivation for the patient.Treatment Program
The overall goal of a successful treatment is that the experienced pain decreases and the quality of life increases. In order to achieve this goal the active therapy must be progressive and inline with the individual’s ability to adapt the changes.
The treatment is always based on individual assessment. The progression of the program follows the patient’s subjective evaluation of the experienced resistance and the pain indicators. A default program for the Spine concept provides a safe start, which can be used in early stages of rehabilitation. At the beginning, the range of motion is designed to be small and the loading light.
